WEEK 1 READINGS

DAY 1 DAY 2 DAY 3  |  DAY 4 DAY 5

DECEMBER 5 // Friday: Unexpected Instruments

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 “Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: ‘Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.'”

Reflection: God’s choice of Mary perfectly illustrates His kingdom pattern: He delights in using the unexpected to accomplish His purposes. Throughout Scripture, God consistently bypasses the powerful and prominent to work through shepherds, tax collectors, fishermen, and teenage girls. Why? So that when His power is displayed, everyone knows it’s Him, not human ability. This Advent season, remember that God isn’t looking for the most talented or experienced—He’s looking for the willing.

Reflection Question: In what ways are you tempted to disqualify yourself from being used by God? How might God see those very “weaknesses” as opportunities for His strength?

Application Step: Make a list of your perceived weaknesses or limitations. For each one, write: “God can use this to display His strength.”
