Scripture: Luke 1:38-45 “‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’ Then the angel left her. At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!'”
Reflection: Mary’s “yes” to God came with tremendous personal cost. She risked her reputation, her engagement, her safety, and her future. In her culture, pregnancy outside of marriage could lead to public disgrace or even death by stoning. Yet her response reveals profound surrender: “I am the Lord’s servant.” She didn’t negotiate terms or ask for guarantees of safety. She trusted that the God who called her would also sustain her. Our “yes” to God may not always make sense to those around us, but it positions us in the center of His perfect will.
Reflection Question: What is God asking you to say “yes” to that feels risky or costly?
Application Step: Have a conversation with someone you trust about something God is calling you to do that scares you. Ask them to pray with you for courage to obey.
