WEEK 1 READINGS

DAY 1 DAY 2 DAY 3  |  DAY 4 DAY 5

DECEMBER 1 // Monday: Chosen by Grace

Scripture: Luke 1:26-33 “In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.’ Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this was. But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.'”

Reflection: God’s favor isn’t based on our qualifications or status but on His grace. Mary wasn’t chosen because she was extraordinary by human standards—she was a young woman from Nazareth, a town so small it barely registered on anyone’s map. Yet God saw her heart and chose her for the most extraordinary purpose in history. When God calls us “highly favored,” it’s not because of what we’ve accomplished but because of His love for us.

Reflection Question: How does knowing that God chooses ordinary people for extraordinary purposes change how you view yourself and your potential role in His kingdom?

Application Step: Write down three ways you feel “ordinary” or unqualified. Pray over each one, asking God to help you see how He might use these very areas for His glory.
