Last year, our Missions team felt a clear call to expand our impact in Latin America. After months of prayer and intentional conversations, God led us to five incredible ministry partners – two of them serving right in the heart of Guatemala.
In February, we had the amazing opportunity to send a team of eight to Guatemala to serve alongside Torre Fuerte Church and Medical Missions Ministries. Together, they hosted medical clinics, built vital infrastructure, and most importantly, shared the love of Jesus with the local community. Torre Fuerte Church – “Strong Tower” in English” – is a vibrant ministry located in Mixco, Guatemala. The country’s second-largest city is home to over 475,000 people. Led by Pastor Boris Sotomayor, the church is passionate about reaching their community with the hope of the gospel through bold evangelism and intentional discipleship.
Every week, church members go door to door sharing the love of Jesus, while the church also hosts dynamic evangelistic events tailored for children, men, and women. They’re not just waiting for people to come to them – they’re actively going out and finding ways to connect, using social media and creative promotions to extend their reach and impact even more lives.
Our team partnered with Ilse Alb and Medical Missions Ministries to offer medical clinics in low-income churches. These clinics met physical needs while also opening doors for evangelism, helping connect new believers with local discipleship opportunities. Additionally, Torre Fuerte and Medical Missions Ministries joined forces to host more medical clinics throughout the surrounding community, extending their gospel impact through compassionate care.
“God used Kathleen to challenge me to go outside my comfort zone in serving. Doing hands-on vital signs and greeting people at medical clinics is easy for me, but she insisted I spend a day in the counseling station. It was difficult. I did not want to. It was not natural to quickly turn small talk into spiritual and gospel conversations. I prayed the Lord would give me words to say, which created dependence on Him. I had some of the sweetest and most emotional conversations with a couple of older Guatemalan ladies. After I prayed for their situations, in tears they then prayed for me.”

“God moved in my heart every morning as the entire team shared worship. We sang and worshipped for an hour every day before we went out to serve. Then we saw God preparing the hearts of our patients. They were so receptive to the gospel presentation. It was a beautiful thing… He will equip you for where you are called to serve. If you have a willing heart, He will give you the skills needed.”
– Jan Watkins // Heights Church Member
The team also partnered with Pastor Boris Sotomayor and Iglesia Torre Fuerte in constructing a new evangelism and discipleship center – a dedicated space designed to equip leaders and expand the reach of their ministry. We are so expectant of how God will use this space to gather believers and continue the cycle of discipleship in Guatemala!
Prayer Requests:
- A passion within the congregation to fulfill the Great Commission by sharing the gospel and engaging in discipleship within the community
- Spiritual and physical health for the congregation and community around Torre Fuerte
- Physical health and protection for the church’s leadership team
- For Torre Fuerte Church to achieve their goals of growing in evangelism and discipleship
