This August, our church had the amazing opportunity to travel to Honduras and serve alongside our Global Partners, Jim and Sandra Murphy, at Promise Home Children’s Home. Promise Home (Hogar de la Promesa) provides children in Honduras with a loving family environment where they can experience the love of Christ. It gives them education, nutrition, and vocational training so they can grow into healthy, productive leaders in their communities.
Our team spent six days living alongside the staff at Promise Home—building friendships with the 12 children there, partnering with local churches in evangelism, hosting VBS for neighborhood kids, and taking on construction projects. Everyone came home with a love for Honduras, but for the Bussing family, this trip also deepened their love for each other.

Brandy and Jim Bussing, along with their daughters Rayne and Skylar, had never been on an international mission trip before. Yet they stepped out in faith, and what they discovered was more than just a trip—it was a spiritual turning point for their family.
Rayne reflected on how much this trip meant to her:
“It being my family’s first international mission trip made it such an inspiring experience. It was refining, stretching, and a time of deep spiritual growth for all of us. It was such a blessing to see not only my parents but also my sister, my best friend, be the hands and feet of Jesus. Going with my family was an incredible blessing, but just going at all was a gift from the Lord.
Her mom, Brandy, shared a similar sense of awe as she looked back on serving together as a family:
This trip changed me forever. To get to serve God and serve with my family—seeing my children love and play with the Honduran children, work hard, bag food, and minister to villages—is something that will be in my heart and theirs forever. It still brings me to tears to see my family so willing to serve others. To have this experience together is something that can never be replaced.
For Jim, the experience was unforgettable:
I’ve heard many people return from a mission trip and speak about how it was life changing. You don’t really understand that until you’ve been. Overall, this was a trip I will never forget! I watched the Holy Spirit work through everyone on the team.
And for Skylar, this trip will continue to impact her life after returning home:
For me, to go on mission with my family and some of their church family was a sweet blessing. Serving hand in hand with the family God has blessed you with is His plan—I truly believe that. The Lord showed me on this trip that He can absolutely do more than all we could ask, think, or imagine. Because I served the people of Honduras, the Lord used that to encourage my love for serving my neighbors and sharing Jesus with them! Mission trips cause a ripple effect in the work of the Kingdom of God!
Prayer Requests:
- For continued favor with the Honduran government as our partners continue to work alongside them to bring the best possible care to these children
- That the children in Promise Home would find God’s purpose for their lives and pursue their calling
- That the staff at Promise Home would be renewed in their serving
