In November 2016, Portland and John Mithen launched Abwenzi A Yesu Friends of Jesus Inc., now called Agape Evangelical Ministries. Their vision grew out of years on the mission field and a desire to serve the world’s most vulnerable with the love of Christ. Through their leadership, Agape Evangelical has become a global ministry that raises awareness, equips leaders, and supports churches in places of poverty and need. At its heart, the ministry seeks to glorify God by bringing the Good News and demonstrating His compassion through medical care, orphan sponsorship, and discipleship training. 

The Mithens and their team serve in some of the most underserved regions of Africa, partnering with churches and communities to care for orphans, widows, pastors, and lay leaders. Their ministry combines evangelism with practical acts of mercy, demonstrating Christ’s love in tangible ways. 

Medical Missions 

• Provide medical clinics in rural communities with little to no access to healthcare. 
• Supply medicines, lab tests, and equipment to treat preventable diseases and relieve suffering. 

Orphan Sponsorship & Education 

• Connect children with loving families in Uganda and Malawi, ensuring food, clothing, schooling, and spiritual care. 
• Sponsor teenagers in Kenya to continue their education, breaking cycles of poverty through opportunity. 

Bible Training & Discipleship 

• Lead Bible teaching seminars for pastors and lay leaders who lack access to theological education. 
• Provide Bibles, Christian literature, and workshops to equip leaders for long-term ministry impact. 

Church Partnerships & Outreach 

• Work alongside local congregations to strengthen their witness through evangelism and discipleship. 
• Encourage churches to meet both physical and spiritual needs in their communities.
