CITIES

WAKING THE CITIES UP TO JESUS

At The Heights Church, we believe it’s important to serve our cities! We provide many different outlets to serve the greater DFW area. Our mission is to serve while sharing the gospel with events throughout the year.

BAPTIST STUDENT MINISTRIES: TUESDAY LUNCH

Every Tuesday, from 11:45-1:00 pm, the Baptist Student Ministries and local churches host a free lunch for students to learn more about Jesus on the University of Texas at Dallas campus. Students enjoy lunch and talk about American culture and faith topics. Table Facilitators host a small group of students as they discuss the topic of the day over lunch. Hospitality Volunteers welcome and serve students lunch each Tuesday afternoon.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS INC. (ISI): FRIENDSHIP PARTNERS

Within 3 miles of The Heights, 6,700 University of Texas at Dallas international students live and study, every day! The Heights partners with an on-campus ministry called ISI that pairs you with one student. By building a friendship with them, you welcome these students to Dallas, introduce them to American culture, learn about their home, and have an opportunity to share with them the love of Jesus. The Lord is truly bringing the nations to our community!

BUKHAIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Bukhair Elementary, our Richardson ISD partner school, has a variety of opportunities throughout the year that help to connect the students and their families to the Bukhair community and continued learning. Join us as we support this community.

Adopt-a-Teacher

This is a monthly commitment to pray over the teachers and gift them with small blessings throughout the school year. You will be provided with a “favorite things” wish list for your teacher. The monthly blessings can be as simple as a note left in their box, a gift card, or their favorite candy!  It’s just a reminder to them that we are supporting the hard work that they do daily and lets them know that we love them and are praying for them.

CAR CARE

The Height’s Car Care Ministry is designed to provide basic automotive maintenance services at no cost and on a regular basis to our widows, single moms, and single women in our church. This will be a true “justice” ministry, as those within The Heights, who are knowledgeable in car maintenance can help those who need assistance. Skilled and apprentice mechanics are needed. Events are scheduled on Saturdays from 7 am – 12 pm and generally in February, June, and October.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

There are many opportunities to minister to adults with cognitive disabilities in our community. Many group home members have families out of state or unable to visit, so forming ongoing relationships with caring Christian individuals helps to meet the needs for family, fellowship and love that so many cognitively challenged adults desire.

Circle of Friends volunteers host a fellowship of about 75 adults with cognitive disabilities on the first 3 Tuesdays of each month throughout the school year.

CORNERSTONE – HOMELESS MEALS

Cornerstone currently feeds 200 homeless men and women three times a week. The Heights sponsors every third Thursday of the month, but volunteers are needed for the following serving times:

  • Greeters
  • One-on-one conversations with the women
  • Administrative helpers

  • Coordinators and servers for breakfasts

Other opportunities include:

THE WAY

The Way is a ministry partner of The Heights that exists to share the revolutionary love of Christ with women involved in the adult nightclub industry. Their goal is to awaken hope and empower change as they minister to these women and connect them to community and spiritual resources. Every month, there are opportunities for you to be a part of:

  • Club Teams – these teams go into the clubs and actively build relationships in order to share the gospel.
  • Prayer Team- this team meets to pray for the Club Teams while they visit the clubs.
  • Hospitality Team – this team prepares gifts for the women prior to club night.

PRAYER SHAWL

The Prayer Shawl team is made up of a committed group of women who knit “shawls” for those who are undergoing various illnesses and life struggles. This ministry began in 2005. Over the years, the “knitters” have given over 4,000 prayer shawls to people in need. These include baby blankets, blankets for children, shawls for women and lap throws for men. There is always a need for another “knitter” on the team.

TEXAS BAPTIST MEN

TBM mobilizes Christ followers to change the world, tackling its biggest challenges by meeting crucial needs after disasters, providing clean drinking water for people around the globe, and equipping the next generation to make a difference for years to come. Both men and women serve in the more than 17 ministries that TBM offers, including disaster relief, builders, medical / dental, agricultural, and water purification. There are opportunities to serve locally, nationally, and internationally – for both skilled and unskilled volunteers.

QUILTED BLESSINGS

Quilted Blessings Ministry is made up of a group of faithful Heights’ women who quilt for those in need. This ministry began in 2014 because these ladies felt called to combine their love for quilting and their passion for serving others. So far, over 200 quilts have been created and donated to orphans through our missions’ partner in Bulgaria and other local ministries.

NETWORK OF COMMUNITY MINISTRIES

Network provides health and emergency services to children, low-income families, and senior citizens in need within Richardson ISD, including the Park Central area. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Food Room: organize, sort, and stock donated food for the clients of Network.
  • Food Pick-up: pick up donated food from grocery stores; deliver to the Network.
