JAN 6 — GATHER

Scripture Passage: Hebrews 10:19-39

Devotional Thought:

The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. Hebrews 10 moves from the assurance we have through Christ’s sacrifice to practical exhortations about faith, endurance, and community. The author urges believers to draw near to God with sincere hearts—together. Don’t neglect meeting together, he writes, but encourage one another, stirring up love and good works as we see Christ’s return approaching.

This reflects what we believe at The Heights: we’re better together. And it takes intentionality.

Gathering with other believers strengthens and sustains us in ways nothing else can. When we worship together, pray for one another, and share life, we experience the body of Christ functioning as it was designed. The early church met regularly—not out of obligation, but because they needed one another. Hebrews reminds us that corporate gathering isn’t just a good habit; it’s a spiritual necessity. It’s the place where believers mutually uplift, challenge, and spur one another toward faithfulness.

Gathering builds resilience. It offers accountability. It reflects God’s design for His people to grow together in obedience and love. And when we face persecution, doubt, or spiritual weariness, we draw courage from one another. The mutual encouragement of believers is how Christ’s love becomes tangible in community, enabling us to stand firm and walk in obedience.

Tomorrow, we’re fasting together as a church. One of the beautiful things about corporate fasting is that we’re not doing it alone. We’re gathered—not physically in the same room, but spiritually united in the same pursuit. We’re seeking God together, weakening our flesh together, and reminding one another that God sustains us. As you prepare to fast tomorrow, know that you’re surrounded by brothers and sisters doing the same thing. Let that encourage you.

Reflection Questions:

1. What difference has gathering with other believers made in your spiritual life?

2. What practical steps can you take this week to deepen your involvement in Christian community?

3. How does knowing you’re fasting with your church family tomorrow encourage you?

Application: Reach out to someone from your church or growth group today and share a specific way they’ve encouraged you. Let them know you’ll be fasting together tomorrow, and ask if there’s anything specific you can pray for them during that time.
