We continue our SOAP practice this week — read the passage, then work through Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Keep journaling your answers as you go.
Scripture Passage:
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:4–9
Devotional Thought:
Moses doesn’t just tell Israel to love God — he tells them to talk about it constantly: at home, on the road, lying down, getting up. Discipleship was never meant to be confined to a single hour on a single day; it was woven into the ordinary rhythms of family life. The foundation of a household isn’t built in a moment of inspiration — it’s built in a thousand small, repeated conversations. What rhythms in your home could carry God’s Word more naturally?
S — Scripture: What verse or phrase stands out to you?
O — Observation: What does this say, and what does it mean? What does it reveal about God, about people, or about your own heart?
A — Application: What am I going to do because of what God said? Is there a sin to confess? Is there a command to obey? Is there an attitude to change? Is there a promise to trust?
P — Prayer: How will I respond to God? Let His Word shape your words back to Him.
