Scripture:
Matthew 6:16-24 (ESV)
Devotional Thought:
Fasting is more than abstaining from food—it’s feasting on God. Jesus warns against fasting for attention, calling instead for a hidden, heartfelt practice done in devotion to the Father.
In the wilderness, Jesus fasted for 40 days—not to impress others, but to prepare His heart and body for obedience. Fasting creates space. It quiets noise. It surfaces what we often numb. It’s not about legalism; it’s about longing.
When you fast, you say to your soul, “God is my portion.” Whether you’re fasting from meals, media, or another comfort, let it drive you to prayer, repentance, and deep communion with the Lord.
Reflection Questions:
1. What distractions tend to dull your spiritual hunger?
2. How might God be inviting you to fast during this season?
3. What does your current hunger reveal about your heart?
Application:
Choose one thing to fast from for the remainder of the week, and replace that time with focused prayer and Scripture reading.
