January 21: Your Purpose Is Right in Front of You

Scripture:

Luke 10:25-37

Devotional Thought:

The story of the Good Samaritan isn’t just about helping people in need—it’s about redefining who your neighbor is and where your purpose shows up. The religious leaders in the story were so focused on their duties, their rules, and their destinations that they walked right past someone dying on the side of the road. They had important things to do. Places to be. Purposes to fulfill.

But the Samaritan—the outsider, the one with no religious credentials—saw the person in front of him and stopped. He didn’t view the wounded man as an interruption to his purpose. He recognized that this person was his purpose in that moment.

Most of us are waiting for some dramatic calling or future assignment to give our lives meaning. We think purpose is something we find when circumstances align or when God finally reveals the big plan. But Jesus shows us something different: purpose isn’t found in some far-off destination. It’s found in the person right in front of you.

The coworker struggling with anxiety. The neighbor going through a divorce. The kid who needs attention. The friend who just got bad news. These aren’t interruptions to your G

purpose—they are your purpose. When you love the person in front of you, you are walking in the way of Jesus.

You don’t have to wait for some future season or bigger platform. You fulfill your purpose today in the way you love the people God places in your path.

Reflection Questions:

• Who is the person right in front of you that God might be inviting you to love today?

• What “interruptions” this week might actually be God-given opportunities to live out your purpose?

• How would your daily routine change if you truly believed the people in front of you are your primary mission field?

Application:

Identify one person in your everyday life who needs to be seen, heard, or helped. Don’t wait for the perfect moment or the right words. Just show up. Send the text. Make the call. Stop by their desk. Bring them a meal. Your purpose isn’t somewhere else—it’s right here.
