Activities:
- Home Connection
- NEED: Baby doll, baby blanket, streamers, toilet paper, and a toy banana
- DO:
- Before the Activity: Gather the child with supplies either on the floor or at a table.
- During the Activity: Lead the child to investigate swaddling the baby with the different items available. Help them determine what is the best option for wrapping Baby Jesus. Continue as long as there is interest.
- After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend, come sit with me. I want to do an experiment with you. An experiment is where you try different things to see what works best. Let’s see what will work best to wrap these babies and keep them warm.”
- During the Activity: “Let’s try wrapping our baby with these streamers. (Demonstrate.) See if you can get the baby all covered and warm with them. Hmmm, I wonder if that’s the best. Now, let’s try wrapping our baby with this banana. (Demonstrate.) Did that work? (Pause.) No, I think the banana is not the best to cover our baby and keep him warm. What about toilet paper? Let’s try that. (Demonstrate.) Wow, we did cover the baby with toilet paper. Do you think that’s the best? (Pause.) Let’s keep experimenting. Let’s use this blanket. (Demonstrate.) Oh look, the baby is all wrapped up and warm. Which one do you think did the best job of wrapping our baby? (Pause.) Yes, the blanket did the best job. Great job of experimenting. We learned that the blanket is best for wrapping a baby. Do you want to try it again?”
- After the Activity: “In today’s story, we’ll hear about a very special baby. I wonder if they wrapped Him in a blanket. Let’s find out."
- Cuddle Time
- Cuddle with your child and pray: "God, [child's name] and I are getting so excited about Christmas! Everywhere we look we see all kinds of fun decorations. Please help us remember that all of these decorations are to celebrate that Jesus was born! And Jesus is the MOST wonderful because Jesus is Your Son!"

- Home Connection
- NEED:Toddler-safe mirror
- DO:
- Before the Activity: Gather the child in front of the mirror.
- During the Activity: Encourage the child to make different types of emotional faces in the mirror. Make each type of face multiple times, being sure to highlight surprised often.
- After the Activity: Introduce the story as one about someone who was very surprised.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend, come look in the mirror with me.”
- During the Activity: “Can you see your face? (Pause.) Great. Let’s make a happy face! (Demonstrate.) Look at that smiling, happy face. Now, how about a sad face? (Demonstrate.) Aww, you all look so sad. Can you show me a scared face? (Demonstrate.) Nice job! Oh, how about a surprised face? (Demonstrate.) Now, let’s do a happy face again! And now we’re surprised. Now, we’re scared. And sad.” (Repeat as time and interest allow.)
- After the Activity: “You did such a great job of showing me all of those different kinds of faces. Today, we’re going to hear about someone who was surprised. I wonder what surprised her. Let’s find out.”
- Morning Time
- When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say: "It's Christmas time, [child's name]! I'm so excited that it's almost Jesus' birthday!"

- NEED: Music player and different types of music with slow and fast tempos
- DO:
- Before the Activity: Stand together in a circle in your activity area.
- During the Activity: Play the music and allow the child to move to the music. Mention how the music may feel slow, calm, fast, or happy. Repeat as desired.
- After the Activity: Introduce King David from today’s Bible story and how he danced to thank God.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend, stand with me. Today, we’re going to dance!”
- During the Activity: “I have some different music to play for you. Listen to the music. If it’s slow, dance slow. If the music is fast, dance fast. Some music might make you want to jump, and some music might make you want to sway. Let’s dance! (Play music.) How does this music make you feel like moving? (Pause the music.) Wow, great dancing! Listen, here comes the next song. (Repeat as desired.) That was so much fun, dancing and moving our bodies to the different music!”
- After the Activity: “Today, we’ll hear a story about a king named David who loved to thank God by singing and dancing. I can’t wait to hear our story!”
- Bath Time
- During bath time, sing the following words to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus:" "I can thank God for [object/person], [object/person], [object/person]. I can thank God for [object/person]. I can thank God." Repeat with different objects/persons. End the song by singing: "I can thank God for everything, everything, everything. I can thank God for everything. I can thank God."

Activities:
- Home Connection
- NEED: Basket and toy food
- DO:
- Before the Activity: Place the food in the basket and set it in an open area of the room.
- During the Activity: Call the child to pick a food from the basket. Once the child has their fruit and is standing, ask them to hold their fruit over their head and march around the room. If desired, ask the child to put their food back in the basket then call the child back to the basket to pick a new food and parade again.
- After the Activity: Introduce the idea of thanking God for food found in today’s Bible story.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend, come stand with me! I thought it would be fun if we had a food parade today. A parade is where people get together and walk around to celebrate something. Let’s celebrate food.”
- During the Activity: “[Child’s name], come pick one piece of food from the basket then stand right here. (Pause.) Great! Hold your food above your head. (Pause.) Wow! Look at the yummy food! Okay, ready to parade? Follow me! (Lead the child around the room.) Let’s sit down. [Child’s name], tell me what food you have. (Walk around with the basket.) Awesome! Put your food back in the basket. (Pause.) Thank you for making a great parade!”
- After the Activity: “In our story today, we’ll hear about some people who learned to thank God for food. I can’t wait to hear all about it.
- Drive Time
- While on the go, ask your child what their favorite foods are. Talk about your favorite foods too. Then say: "I'm so thankful God gives us yummy foods to eat!"

- NEED: Ribbon or crepe paper streamers and scissors
- DO:
- Before the Activity: Cut ribbon or streamers in two-foot lengths, one per child. Give the child a ribbon or streamer.
- During the Activity: Call out the child by saying “Thank You, God, for my friend [child’s name].” Ask the child to celebrate by dancing around and waving their ribbons. Repeat as desired.
- After the Activity: Introduce the two friends, David and Jonathan, from today’s Bible story.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Hello, friend! I’m so happy to see everyone today! Come over here with me and spread out. Today, let’s celebrate each other. Here is a ribbon for [child’s name].
- During the Activity: “Thank You, God, for my friend [child’s name]. Let’s celebrate [child’s name] by dancing and waving our ribbons! (Pause.) Super-duper. Awesome! I’m so thankful for the friends God gives us. Let’s celebrate ALL of our friends!”
- After the Activity: “Today, we’ll hear a story about two friends named David and Jonathan.”
- Cuddle Time
- Cuddle with your child and pray: "God, thank You for our friends [names of your friends and your child's friends]. Help us to be a good friend to them by loving, helping, and sharing."

- DO:
- Before the Activity: Gather the child in your activity area.
- During the Activity: Ask the child to pretend they are in a bus and you are the bus driver. Wave at the child to get on the bus, pretend to honk the horn, then drive. As you move around the room, ask the child to tell you where they are going, what they see, and who is with them.
- After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend, come stand here with me! I have a fun activity for us. I am a bus driver. See my big bus? Come on, friend! (Wave them to come.) Get on my bus. That’s right get behind me. Okay, we’re all on the bus! I’ll honk my horn, beep-beep, and we will start on our trip.”
- During the Activity: “Wow friend, I love that we are all going on a trip in my bus. [Child’s name], where should we go on our bus today? (Pause.) Oh, I love going there! [Child’s name], what do you see out of your window? (Pause.) Yes, I see that, too. [Child’s name], who do you want to bring on this bus trip? (Pause.) Oh, wow! That would be great to have [person’s name] on this bus ride! Wow, that was a wonderful trip! Thanks for riding on the bus with me. Let’s park the bus and go sit on the rug.”
- After the Activity: “We saw so many places on our bus ride. (Name some of the places the child said during the activity.) We took so many people with us. (Name the people the child said.) Today in our story, we’ll hear about two women named Ruth and Naomi who were family, and they went on a trip together.”
- Morning Time
- When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say: "Good morning, [child's name]! Let's start our day with telling God thanks for our family. (Together) Thank You for our family, God!"

- During the Activity: Encourage the child to play with and try on the dress-up clothes and role play.
- After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story and the concept of being brave.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend, come look at what we have to play with today. Dress-up clothes! We can be so many different people like firefighters, police officers, doctors, teachers, and all kinds of super kids!”
- During the Activity: “What will you choose? (Pause.) Wow! Look at you, you are an awesome [helper/super kid]! Look at yourself in the mirror. Now show me how a [helper/super kid] is brave. (Pause.) Super-duper! Who else can you dress up as? (Repeat as desired.) That was so fun, watching you dress up as different brave characters!”
- After the Activity: “Police officers, firefighters, doctors, and all community helpers do brave things—super kids, too! And today in our Bible story, we’ll hear about someone who did a lot of brave things.”
- Morning Time
- When you go into your child’s room, say: "Good morning, [child's name]! Show me you're ready to be brave today with your strong and courageous super kid pose!"

Activities:
- Home Connection
- NEED: Dress-up crown, tunnel, and a toy scepter; Optional pool noodle or curtain rod with one finial instead of scepter
- DO:
- Before the Activity: Place tunnel near the entrance of the room. Encourage the child to stand in front of the tunnel.
- During the Activity: Call the child by name to the tunnel. Hold your scepter in front of the tunnel. Declare that they may enter and raise your scepter. Encourage the child to crawl through the tunnel and return to the start. Repeat as desired.
- After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend, come stand in front of the tunnel with me! I am the [queen or king] of the room, and I have a fun game for us to play.”
- During the Activity: “When I call your name, please walk forward. I will declare you able to enter. Let’s play! [Child’s name], please step forward. (Pause.) You may enter. (Wave the scepter over the tunnel and let the child go through.) Oh, wow what a fun way to enter our room. Great job! You did a great job of waiting for the [queen or king] to let you enter our room. You are so brave!”
- After the Activity: “Wow! We had to get the [queen’s or king’s] permission to enter, and today we’ll learn about a brave queen who had to ask the king for help. Come with me, and let’s go hear our story.”
- Bath Time
- Ask your child to help you gather their things for bath time (towel, toys, clean clothes, etc.). During bath time, ask them to help you wash their hair and body. After bath time, ask them to help you clean up. When all is done, say: "Thank you for helping me. Sometimes it's easy to help and other times we have to be brave to help. The good news is that God can help us be brave!"

- NEED: Craft sticks
- DO:
- Before the Activity: Sit together at the table.
- During the Activity: Give the child two craft sticks. Encourage the child to follow the different rhythms you tap with the craft sticks. (Tap, tap, tap; tap, tap-tap, tap; tap-tap, tap, tap-tap; tap-tap, tap-tap, tap-tap; tap, tap, tap-tap, tap).
- After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story and the concept of following.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend, have a seat at the table. We’re going to use the table to make some music today.”
- During the Activity: “I have craft sticks for you to use as rhythm sticks. (Pass out craft sticks.) I’ll tap a rhythm with my sticks. I want you to listen closely and repeat that rhythm with your own sticks! Are you ready? Listen closely. (Tap, tap, tap.) Now you try. (Tap sticks with the children.) Good job. This one is a little harder. Listen. (Tap-tap, tap, tap-tap.) Your turn. (Continue with different patterns and repeat as desired.) You did a great job of listening and following my rhythm!”
- After the Activity: “In our Bible story today, we’ll hear about a man named Daniel who listened to, trusted, and followed God, even when he needed to be brave! Let’s go hear more about Daniel!”
- Drive Time
- While on the go, name different animals and make their sounds together. End with a lion. After you make the lion sound, talk about how Daniel trusted God and God helped Daniel be brave, even in a lion's den.

OCTOBER 8TH PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM

Activities:
- Home Connection
- NEED: Parachute or sheet and gray or brown pom-poms.
- DO:
- Before the Activity: Lay the parachute flat on the floor. Scatter the pom-poms all around the activity area.
- During the Activity: Encourage the child to go around the activity area and collect five pom-pom “rocks” and place them on the parachute. Ask the child to stand around the parachute and pick up a section of the parachute. Ask the child to shake the parachute to try and launch all the pom-poms. Collect the pom-poms and repeat.
- After the Activity: Review the Bible story.
- Say:
- Before the Activity: “Friend! Today, we learned about when David battled Goliath! What did David collect to use in his sling? (Pause.) Rocks! David collected five rocks.”
- During the Activity: “Look around the room. Do you see all the pom-poms? Let’s pretend those pom-poms are rocks. When I say, ‘Go,’ I want you to run and pick up five rocks and put them on the parachute. Ready? Go! (Pause.) Great job! Pick up the parachute and shake. Let’s launch these rocks! (Pause.) Wow! Super-duper! Let’s collect five more and do it again! (Repeat as desired.) Launching the rocks was so much fun!”
- After the Activity: “David knew that God was always with him, and that helped him be brave. David didn’t need armor, just five smooth rocks and his sling. One rock was all it took to knock Goliath down. God helped David be brave, and God can help us be brave too. Who can help you be brave? [Bottom Line] God can help me be brave!”
- Cuddle Time
- Cuddle with your child and pray: "God, help us remember that it's not how high we can jump or how big our muscles are that make us brave. It's You, God. You being with us can help us be brave."
