Honduras 2020 Trip 1|Monday

The first full day started off extra early with cleaning and painting the church’s activity center. Following a lunch together, we split into 3 groups and some team members were able to take part in rice and beans ministry. This means they had the chance to visit houses in the villages, share the love of God with people and pray for them. We finished the day spending time as a team by eating dinner, playing games and debriefing our trip so far. Below are views from 3 of our students.
I came to this trip, to this day, with expectations of being more or less comfortable. For most, that’s not what they anticipate. I’ve come before and I knew that what I would do must was talking with people and listening to them, praying for them and playing with kids. For many, this is the just comfortable situation; on the other hand, for me it’s the most. As a result, I was very excited to do these things I love. However, my day was full of things that made me the least comfortable I’ve been in my whole life. The first thing I had to do was the sabe thing I’m doing now: speaking in Spanish. However this was with a very different audience than those at home: one that can’t understand my errors or I can’t talk to in English also- if I failed, I failed. Then I had a very different struggle, painting the ceiling. You private don’t think this is the biggest threat but for me it truly was. The third uncomfortable situation, one in which we Landry got attacked by dogs, is a story for another day. While we were painting I was thinking about the fact that I was in a country

Because we woke up early, we had whole day of hard work. Its true that when you work harder for something, it means more to you. We can’t wait to see what God does with the fellowship that goes on in those rooms! I also felt that the team as whole grew closer. There was no way we could have accomplished the task alone but with some laughs, good music, and lots of paint, we were able to paint a building. Going off of that, I also learned that the task is not as important that the ones you do it for. Meeting kids while painting, and having lunch at the orphanage was the highlight of my day. The kids reminded me of the importance of being open as they would run to us, not knowing us, and embrace us. As a team we can ,and have, accomplished so much already. With open hearts and minds, I can only imagine what God will use us for! One verse that stuck out to me in particular today was Philippians 4:6.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”.
This reminded me that if we let go of our fears and go to God, He will use us the amazing ways He sees fit.

I enjoyed the team work and the community I got to experience today as we painted the church. It was huge for me to think about how something that’s just labor and had work to me can be so impactful and meaningful to someone else. Also, as we got to talk to some of the people in the village it was amazing to see just how happy they were to see us and get to have just very basic conversation and interact. We also got to go see the orphanage today and the kids and just get to play games with them and spend time with them the best part of the orphanage was listing to them sing baby shark and the incredible view.

Please continue praying for our team as we head into schools for the next day and a half to run VBS for the children. Pray for boldness and softened hearts.
“Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.” -Psalm 40:5
