Our team spent the first full day working today and we are wiped out! This morning was spent creating a trail for families who live in a neighborhood down the way from the village of El Portillo. There are many families who are a part of Promise Home Church that live in this neighborhood. They had been walking through a riverbed that would easily get flooded and has many snakes. Our team got the opportunity to make a safe and smooth way for these families to travel to and from the local village. It was hard work of carving a path out of a sloped hill and moving rocks and gravel, but so worth it to be able to help these families. We also had some team members that helped cook lunch for children at the After School Club that we helped with this afternoon. This program is hosted at Promise Home Church for 55 children from the local school. At this program, children got to eat lunch, learn Bible stories, work on memorizing Bible verses and then play! Check out these stories from students about what God showed them today–

Today in Honduras we were working on the building a trail to the church and school from the village to make it much easier and safer for kids to go to school on and it was a lot of manual labor but at the end of the day we all knew that it would make an impact for many many years to come which made doing all that work a little bit easier. After we worked for a while we went to the school to do an “after school club” with the kids and that was amazing, just getting to love on them and make them laugh no matter how dumb you made yourself look, and getting to see the precious smiles on their face really puts into perspective how they can be so happy given their economic status. It really puts things in perspective and is a great reality check which I personally think I’ve been needing lately. serving and seeing the fruits of my labor from last year when i went as well, has just filled my heart with a new kind of love for serving because seeing all of the little kids happy, reflects and makes me happier as well.” –Allison Sievert, junior at Plano East High School

Today I got to play with the babies in the orphanage & help with the after school club. I’m exhausted but my heart is so full!! The amount of joy I saw in all the kids & even little babies in the orphanage was such an awesome way to see the love the Lord holds. It’s also been really cool for me coming back for the second time this year to see the faithfulness of God. The village has had two new buildings made & went from 2 to 10 children in the orphanage who get to be loved on!! It’s such a tangible vision of what God is doing there, how true His promises are, & all the hope Honduras holds.” –Natalie Russell, junior at Plano East High School

Today our team split up into two and I got to go up to promise home and help cook lunch for the kids at the After School Club. It was really cool to be able to experience all the hard work that goes into providing for the kids. We got to sit down and eat with all the kids and talk with them. It was really cool to see the genuine appreciation and happiness they got from this one meal. The time spent playing with them was awesome. It made me realize my own selfishness in that I constantly was wanting to sit down and get out of the heat, yet the kids were so excited to have us there and just be around us. In our culture, we tend to get so caught up in ourselves and want what we want and forget to have a heart and mind focus on the Lord. The kids here are such a great reminder of the work the Lord does through us when we serve!” –Madi Mullen, junior a Plano Senior High School

The Lord is good and is showing us our weakness and selfishness, and His power and grace in the midst of that. Tomorrow we will be putting on two Vacation Bible School programs all day. We will be sharing the gospel with over 600 kids tomorrow, so be praying for their hearts to be receptive and for the Lord to use our teams to join Him in what He’s doing here!
