Today was full of lots of time spent with kids! We started the morning off running a VBS at a new school. It just opened five months ago and was very different than all the other schools we’ve been to! We found out upon arriving that we would be spending the morning with 1st-3rd graders and 7th-9th graders. At first our team was a little fearful and anxious because we had prepared we 1st-6th graders, but we were reminded that the Lord was not surprised by this and perfectly ordained that we were spending the morning with these specific students. It was incredible to watch God receive glory through this unexpected turn of events! This afternoon we got to help with After School Club and play with the kids from the local village. Then we wrapped up our day by spending some sweet moments with our baby friends from Promise Home Orphanage. It was an all-around great day in Honduras! Keep reading to hear more from three students–
“Today was a good day because we got to minister and love on children all day! We were super tired, but it is hard to feel bad about your circumstance when these kids come running in with such big smiles and hugs despite their very tough circumstances.
This morning we went to a school to do VBS. We were a little intimidated when we heard there would be 7-9th grades there also! The older kids listened carefully to our testimonies and really heard the gospel! Later in the day we went to the Promise Home church to do After School Club. It was fun getting to play with the same kids we spent Sunday with! What strikes me is how joyful they are. They always come in with a smile on their face no matter how little they have or how hungry or tired they are from the long walk to the church. It was sad to leave them today and know it could be the last time to ever see them.”

“Today we went to a very pretty school, filled with many nice kids. I was swarmed with kids during face painting, I don’t know how many stars and hearts I drew today.
I also talked with a couple of girls with the limited Spanish I know….I struggled a bit. During snack, a girl named Karen took a liking to me, she helped me pass around drinks and cookies. She’s super sweet.
At the church for after school club we were greeted with many hugs from the children. I love them all so much, they’re so cute. I got to eat some bomb tortillas. And I got to hang out with a girl named Ingrid. She painted all over my legs and face. Super cute. I really enjoyed spending time with these kids, I really hope to come back next year and see them again.
I’ve learned that no matter what background or culture, that we are all one through Christ. God made us in his image and that he loves every single one of us. And I’m really glad that I got this opportunity to love on these children.”

“Today was a happy day for me. We went to a VBS at a school by Promise Home. I was pumped up for it because I liked the one from yesterday. The only thing that was worrying me were the older kids that we found out we were going to do VBS for. They looked like they didn’t care about any of the things we were doing. Today’s rec was pretty interesting. I played with so many kids that made a big smile to me. I loved talking to them and I remember this one kid he came up to me and told me that he wishes so much to go to the U.S. We got to talk about it and he said that he wishes to go over there and help his family out. I said keep seeking God and He will make His way clear to you and provide for your family. I told him that he could do anything through Christ. After that we went to Promise home to eat lunch. I had a great time talking to Pierce, Treyson, and Jose. When I was done of course I had to go see Diego! Diego is really an amazing baby who lives at Promise Home. I pray that God will grow Him in Christ. He makes me smile. I love seeing him smile. Hearing their stories has broken my heart and makes me so sad. I was sad when I heard that today was going to be the last day to see them. After we got done with the babies, we went down to the church for the After School Club and I got to see my Buddies!!!!!! I loved playing soccer with my Buddies. They are so joyful and loving. Oh yeah also, when we got off the bus I really loved when the kids rushed up to the bus to greet us and give us all hugs. I miss the kids now and I want to cry, but you know I have to be a big boy. I loved sharing the gospel and seeing them really happy.”

Tonight as we debriefed, we spent some time processing what God has taught us about Himself, about ourselves, about the idols we are prone to run to, and about what it looks like for us to tangibly abide in Christ. Join us in praying for the Spirit to continue showing us God’s greatness and our sin. Pray for our last full day in Honduras as we install two pilas (outdoor sinks) at homes. We are expectant!
