DECEMBER 25 // Thursday: An Unexpected King

Scripture: John 1:10-12 “He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

Teaching Point: The world missed its King because He didn’t arrive as expected. They wanted a political deliverer; God sent a suffering servant. They expected power; He came in humility. They looked for a throne; He was born in a stable. Many still miss Jesus today for the same reason—He doesn’t conform to our expectations or preferences. But those who have eyes to see recognize that this unexpected King is exactly the Savior we need. He didn’t come to overthrow Rome; He came to overthrow sin and death. He didn’t come to meet our expectations; He came to meet our deepest need. Tonight, we worship the King who came unexpectedly and changed everything.

Reflection Question: Have you truly received Jesus as your King, or are you still waiting for Him to be who you think He should be?

Application Step: Tonight, before you sleep, kneel and worship Jesus as your King. Surrender any area of your life where you’ve been resisting His lordship. Thank Him for coming in the unexpected way that accomplished your salvation.
