Scripture: Luke 2:10-11; Romans 5:6-11 “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’ You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”
Reflection: The angel’s announcement contained three powerful titles: Savior, Messiah (Christ), and Lord. Jesus didn’t come merely as a teacher or example—He came as the Savior we desperately need. We don’t need better advice; we need rescue. We don’t need a life coach; we need a Redeemer. The word “Savior” implies we’re in danger, that we’re drowning and can’t save ourselves. This Christmas, don’t miss the central message: Jesus came to save you from sin, death, and separation from God. That’s why His birth is good news.
Reflection Question: Do you see Jesus primarily as Savior, or have you reduced Him to something less (a good teacher, a moral example, a historical figure)?
Application Step: Spend time in prayer thanking Jesus specifically for saving you. If you’ve never received Him as Savior, today is the perfect day to surrender your life to Him.
