How To Read the Bible

Find Your Time - Just like you would plan for a doctors appointment or an important meeting, schedule regular times in your week to meet with God.

Find Your Place - Look for a place where you can consistently meet with God. This could be a chair in your office, a seat at the table, or even in your car before going to work.

Make a Plan - Don't just sit down and open your Bible. Have a plan for what you're going to read. If you're just getting started, the gospels are a great place to start! Having a plan will always help you stick with a goal longer.

Here are some Bible reading plan ideas to try:

  • Start with the book of John - read a chapter a day
  • Use the daily email plan from First15
  • Use the Bible app by YouVersion and try one of their plans

Use a Strategy:

S.O.A.P. Method of Bible Study

Scripture - Make a daily appointment with God to sit down and read His Word. Meditate and ask Him to reveal His truth to you.

Observation - What do you see in the verses that you're reading? Who is the audience? What words or phrases stand out to you?

Application - Take it personally. How can you apply what you just read to your own life? What changes do you need to make?

Prayer - Pray God's Word back to Him. If He has revealed something to you during this time, pray about it.
