Scripture:
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

Devotional Thought:
The tree of life appears again. In Genesis 3, God placed a guard at the tree to prevent fallen humanity from eating of it and living forever in a broken state. Now, in the restored kingdom, the tree is at the center of the city — bearing fruit every month, its leaves for the healing of the nations. The way is no longer barred. The curse is gone. Access is restored.
They will see his face. In the Old Testament, this was the most dangerous thing imaginable — to see God’s face was to die. Moses could only see God’s back. The high priest entered the Holy of Holies once a year, with great fear. But in the restored kingdom, God’s servants see his face — directly, personally, without barrier. This is the destination of the whole story. Not a place, ultimately, but a person. Face to face with the God who made you and loves you and has been working through all of history to bring you home.
And the last invitation of the Bible is wide open: Come. Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. The kingdom story ends not with a locked door but an open one. The invitation still stands. It stands today.

1. What does “seeing God’s face” — unmediated, unashamed, fully known and fully loved — stir in you as a longing or a hope?
2. Who in your life needs to hear the final invitation of Revelation 22 — come, take the free gift — and how might you carry that invitation to them?
Application:
Share the gospel with someone this week — not as a program, but as the genuine extension of the invitation at the end of the story: Come. The water of life is free. The door is open. Pray for the courage to say it and the words to say it well.
