Psalm 8:1–9 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the field, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Devotional Thought:
David looks up at the night sky — the moon, the stars, the vastness of what God has made — and asks the most honest question: What is mankind that you are mindful of them? It is not a question born of low self-esteem. It is the question of someone who has genuinely reckoned with how large God is and how small we are, and found the gap staggering.
And the answer is equally staggering. You are crowned with glory and honor. You have been made a ruler over the works of God’s hands. The God who set the stars in place looked at humanity — small, finite, dust-formed — and crowned them. Not because they earned it. Because he wanted to.
Colossians pulls the lens back even further: all things were created through Christ and for Christ. The kingdom story doesn’t begin with Genesis 1 — it begins before time, in the eternal purposes of the Son who is the image of the invisible God. Creation is not just God’s handiwork. It is Christ’s — and it was made for him. And he holds it all together right now, in this moment, by his power.
You live in a world that belongs to Christ, sustained by Christ, moving toward its culmination in Christ. The kingdom story that launches this summer series is not a human story with God occasionally involved. It is God’s story, from before the beginning, moving toward its certain completion. And you — crowned with glory and honor, made in his image — are invited into the middle of it.

1. How does holding together your smallness before God and your dignity as his image-bearer — both true at the same time — shape the way you see yourself?
2. What does it mean for your daily life that Christ is actively holding all things together right now — including the things in your life that feel most out of control?
Application:
Begin each morning this week by reading Colossians 1:17 aloud: In him all things hold together. Before you check your phone, before the day’s demands land on you — let that be the first truth you speak. The King is holding it. You can trust him with today.
