March 23: Created for Nearness

Scripture:
Exodus 33:7–23

Devotional Thought:
Moses’ request is striking in its honesty. He doesn’t ask God for clearer instructions, military success, or protection from hardship. He asks for presence. “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” Moses understood something essential about intimacy with God: everything else is secondary.

This passage reveals that intimacy is not built on convenience or comfort, but on trust and dependence. God invites Moses into a deeper relationship—not by explaining everything, but by assuring him of nearness. Intimacy grows when we learn to value God’s presence more than His outcomes.

If you’re longing for intimacy with God, this story reminds you that God is not distant. He welcomes bold prayers and honest desire. Nearness is not something you earn—it’s something God offers.

Reflection:
• What do you usually ask God for first—answers, help, or presence?
• What might change if intimacy became your primary desire?

Application:
Set aside intentional time today to be with God without an agenda—no requests, just presence.
