March 11: Hope That Grows in the Dark

Scripture:
Romans 5:1–11

Devotional Thought:
Paul describes a surprising progression: suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. This hope isn’t naïve optimism—it’s forged through hardship. It’s hope that has been tested and proven trustworthy.

What keeps this process from crushing us is love. God’s love has already been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, assuring us that suffering doesn’t mean rejection. Even in pain, God is forming something deeper within us.

If you’re longing for hope, this passage reminds you that God often does His most meaningful work in unseen places. Hope doesn’t always arrive instantly—but it does grow faithfully.

Reflection:
• How have past struggles shaped your faith or character?
• Where might God be forming hope in you right now, even if you don’t see it yet?

Application:
Reflect on a difficult season God has already brought you through and thank Him for how He used it to strengthen your faith.
