Scripture:
Psalm 51:10-12; Lamentations 3:22-23
Devotional Thought:
Maybe this week has shown you that your compass has shifted. Maybe you’ve realized that a lesser love has quietly taken God’s place. Maybe you’re feeling the weight of how far you’ve drifted—and you’re not sure how to get back.
Here’s what you need to know: God’s mercies are new every morning. His compassion doesn’t run out. His grace doesn’t have a limit. You don’t have to stay where you are. You don’t have to keep drifting. You can come back to center today.
David’s prayer in Psalm 51 is the prayer of someone who knows what it’s like to drift far from God—and who desperately wants to come home. “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” He doesn’t ask God to fix his circumstances. He asks God to fix his heart. To realign his loves. To restore the joy of walking with Him again.
That same invitation is available to you today. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. You don’t have to prove you’re serious this time. You just have to come. Turn back toward Him. Let Him realign your heart. Let Him restore what’s been lost.
Your purpose hasn’t changed. Love God. Love people. That’s still the center. That’s still the way of Jesus. And no matter how far you’ve drifted, He’s ready to bring you home the moment you turn toward Him.
Reflection Questions:
• What is one step you can take today to come back to center and realign your heart with God’s purpose for your life?
• What would it look like for you to pray David’s prayer with complete honesty before God today?
• Who is one person you can tell about your commitment to return to loving God and loving people this week?
Application:
End this week by returning to the center. Set aside time today to pray David’s prayer from Psalm 51. Ask God to create a pure heart in you and renew a steadfast spirit. Confess where you’ve drifted. Receive His mercy. Then choose one specific way you’ll prioritize loving God and loving people this week. Write it down. Tell someone. And take the first step.
