REACH: Student Music/Mission Project

Would you like to use the musical gifts you’ve been given to make a difference? Wednesday, August 25th we will kick off a brand new project utilizing a choir for students in grades 7-12. This 6 week project will include 8 rehearsals and culminate with a mini-mission trip to Central Texas, singing in Texas Youth Commission facilities and participating in a work project or two along the way. A Note from Trent:
I’m very excited about the opportunity to engage our students in worship though this REACH music/missions project. If you are like me there are many times when I wonder if I’m really making a difference and know for sure that I’m doing what God has asked me to do. When we visit those who are incarcerated we can know that we are doing something that Jesus puts a high priority on. The Lord impressed upon my heart many years ago the way He can work in the hearts of adults (and in this case, students) behind bars through His gift of music. The surprising thing is, I really think that I’m the one, that in most cases ends up being the one that is blessed through my time there.
So this is a chance to use your musical gifts for the Lord in a way that goes beyond the walls of THBC. Give it a shot… you may be surprised what He can do through and IN you!

WHY
In order for us to be effective followers of Christ we must be givers. We will challenge our students to get outside the walls of the church and put their faith in action.
WHEN
The main group will leave Friday afternoon after school lets out, followed by a smaller group of those students who are participating in Friday night football/band events. The group will be back Sunday evening.
PLACE
Central Texas, doing concerts in Texas Youth Commission (prison) facilities in Corsicana, Mclennan (Mart, TX) and Giddings. We’ll also participate in a work project of some kind. To download the itinerary, click here.
COST

MUSIC
Each participant will receive a rehearsal CD upon registration. Music will be primarily urban gospel in sound and will be a lot of fun. Because of our limited rehearsal time this CD will be crucial to our success.
REQUIREMENTS
Because of the limited time frame and rehearsal opportunities, attendance at 6 of 8 rehearsals or excused absences will be required.
