CAN'T CONTAIN THE LOVE (Part 1)
Story & Photos by David Alvey

Cookie Slate, board member of Bulgarian Child, Inc. and a member of The Heights Baptist Church, recently spearheaded a drive to gather donations and fill a 40-foot container of humanitarian aid for Bulgarian orphans.

Richardson Regional Medical Center donated used medical equipment. "Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls" donated thousands of pairs of new shoes. Other contributions included computers, play equipment and new clothes. One anonymous couple donated more than 900 pairs of new blue jeans.

The container will travel six weeks by sea to Greece before being delivered by truck to Sofia, Bulgaria. Over the past eight years, the church has sent 11 similar containers.

A group from The Heights will travel to Bulgaria in October to fit orphans with new shoes, socks, and clothes. The goal is to visit three to four orphanages per day.

From volunteering at a local food pantry or tutoring kids at the Park Plaza Apartments to mission trips around the world, The Heights is intentional about serving the community.

Founded in 1956, the church is located at 201 W. Renner Road, on the southwest corner of Renner and Central Expressway (US-75) in Richardson. For more information, call the church office at 972-238-7243.

Jesus said, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me. I was sick and you looked after me. I was in prison and you came to visit me... I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. ~ Matthew 25:35-40 NIV
