Missionaries-Mithen-Oct2009-1Dear Family and Friends,
Thank you for praying for the medical outreach clinic at the Rafiki Village in Malawi!  John and I picked up the team this past weekend in Lilongwe and praise Him for their safe arrival with all their luggage, and their smooth transport through customs with all the medicines and supplies.  Please join me in praising him for also giving me just what I need this week as I recover from laryngitis.

God has provided a wonderful team from the United States of two medical doctors, Dr. Tan and Dr. Veal, three nurses, Cathy Pugh, Audrey Drake and Liz Prince and one medical student Garret Wilson for this clinic.  Along with our U.S. volunteers, we have approximately 14 local national volunteers who make this work possible.  Bertha N’goma, Harvey, Humphrey, Mama Estery, are just a few of the many special volunteers, along with our pastors who work together in providing

Missionaries-Mithen-Oct2009-2The Malawi health care system relies heavily on foreign support and world donors, so medicines are often in short supply at the government hospitals.  I would like to thank everyone has generously donated medicines and supplies for the Rafiki Clinic.  Friday we ended our first week of clinic and praise Him for His wisdom and strength in treating over 600 people several who were very sick.   Some patients walked great distances to come to the clinic and one seen by Dr. Veal walked 30 kilometers after learning about the Rafiki clinic.   We have already treated several cases of malaria, typhoid, upper respiratory infections, and new diagnosis of HIV in patients.  These are often very sad as many are young mothers with children.   Several of our very sick patients are referred to Central Hospital, our local government Hospital, and Friday one sick little girl who is eight years old was transported after Dr. Tan diagnosed a ruptured appendix.  Please keep these patients continued healing in your prayers.
