Day 4 – REST
Written by Richard Covington
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29
Scientists have known that rest for our physical bodies is absolutely crucial and is primarily manifested by sleeping. Here are 12 benefits of physical rest:
- Boosts your immune system
- Improves your memory
- Restores and energizes
- Stimulates creativity
- Helps with weights management
- Keeps you mentally and emotionally fit
- Improves concentration & productivity
- Improves your health
- Slows down the aging process
- Makes you happier
- Makes you eat fewer calories
- Lets you experience less pain
What about rest for your soul? The Greek word used for “soul” in this verse is psyche. Psyche is the core of who we are – it is the soul, the mind, the spirit. We will only find rest for our souls when we come to Jesus. The word for “rest” in this verse actually means revive. Our soul is revived and made new when we put our hope in Christ alone.
Are you tired of the staggering, excessive weight that comes with the burdens that you carry? Are you weary from struggles that you have endured for long periods of time? Do you realize that Jesus wants to remove that weight from you? Jesus’ way is lighter and filled with Hope. If this is you, why don’t you extend your arms as an indication that you are “coming to Him” and ask Jesus to give you freedom and rest today.
Father, the weight of my burden is staggering and I am tired of carrying the load. Today I choose your way. Take my burden and exchange it for your everlasting hope. I desire to experience true rest in the safety of your mighty arms.
