Day 3 – POWER TO LIVE A GODLY LIFE
Power to Live a Godly Life
Written by Pierce Vanderslice
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” 2 Peter 1:3-4
Do you feel like you have everything you need for a godly life? If you’re honest, probably not. I know there are plenty of times when I feel like I am lacking in my pursuit of a “godly life.”
Yet, Peter tells us that on behalf of the divine power of God and through knowing Jesus, we have EVERYTHING we need for a godly life. This means that despite our sin and perpetual shortcomings, those of us who have been transformed by the Gospel can live a godly life because Christ has called us into His glory and goodness! Not only do we get to enjoy the life God has designed for us, but we are also invited to participate in His divine nature. We share in the benefits of being the beloved sons and daughters of the King Almighty!
One of the major ways that the Evil One tries to derail us in our pursuit of a godly life is to make us think we are unworthy of participating in the divine nature of Christ. What lies are Satan feeding you today to keep you from enjoying the full benefits of a godly life?
Spend time reflecting on the truth that the God of the universe has invited you (yes, YOU!) to participate in His divine nature. What does that say about God? What does that say about you?
Heavenly Father, I am thankful that you deem me worthy to share in your divine nature. When I miss the mark, I pray that your Holy Spirit would teach me, lead me, and help me to live a godly life and please you in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
